Today a new polish TV channel TVP Wilno has been launched in Southeast Lithuania. The channel is re-broadcasted via the terrestrial television network free of charge, in an unencoded mode alongside 5 Polish TV channels broadcasted in this region since May 2008. These include the TVP INFO news channel, the TVP POLONIA entertainment channel, the TVP HISTORIA news channel, and 2 music entertainment channels NUTA.TV and POWER TV.

The Lithuanian Radio and Television Centre (Telecentras) and LG Electronics  have agreed on mutual cooperation aimed at introducing the hybrid broadcast broadband TV (HbbTV) intended for smart TV sets.

HbbTV connects terrestrial free-to-air TV with the Internet platform, through which consumers can reach TV multimedia libraries, archives and other online video content.  To watch hybrid television content, consumers will need smart TV sets with an active HbbTV (red button) function and the internet connection of the required speed. Today, the Southeast Lithuania will get access to five uncoded Polish TV channels that have been officially launched via Lithuanian digital terrestrial television networks, i.e. TVP Polonia, TVP Info, TVP Historia, NUTA.TV and Power.

New Polish channels will be accessible in Vilnius, Vilnius, Švenčionys and Šalčininkai districts, including some parts of Ignalina, Anykščiai, Molėtai, Ukmergė, Jonava, Širvintos, Vievis, Kaišiadorys, Elektrėnai, Trakai, Varėna and Alytus district municipalities (see the attached map).

This retransmission project was commissioned by the Ministry of Transport and Communications and will be executed by the Lithuanian Radio and Television Centre (Telecentras).

Telecentras has launched the world’s first commercial IPTV service based on the 4G fixed LTE network solution. This service will provide fast access broadband services to more households so that more people can experience high-quality video in the country.

The 4G-based IPTV service is a joint innovation by Telecentras and Chinese corporation Huawei. Lithuanian state-owned JSC Lithuanian Radio and Television Centre (hereinafter Telecentre) is rapidly expanding new generation data transmission network operating on the basis of 4G LTE technology.

During 8 months of the development the company’s high-speed Internet network has covered 100 Lithuanian towns and villages. 400 base stations have already been mounted in the country’s cities, resorts, district and municipal centres and villages. On 17 August at 11:58 a.m. the Telecentre information system recorded 15000th customer who uses 4G LTE MEZON communication.

Currently Telecentre 4G LTE network covers the territory of Lithuania where 70% of the population reside.

This weekend Lithuania celebrated 90th anniversary of radio broadcasting in the country.

After a successful start of modernization of MEZON 4G Internet network last year, JSC Lithuanian Radio and Television Centre (Telecentre) together with a technological partner, manufacturer of mobile communication infrastructure from China Huawei Technologies, continue a rapid development of the network and are going to install at least 450 base stations for the new generation 4G LTE mobile communication this year.
